Kia ora koutou, greetings!
As the newsletter sent Friday, 22nd June stated, it is with great sadness that the Board of Trustees confirm the upcoming retirement of the Principal, Corinne Hansell, at the end of 2018. Her decision is entirely understandable, given her desire to return to her homeland Samoa and to spend more precious time with her grandson.
During her time with us, Corinne has been instrumental in refreshing the appearance of Stanhope Road School; in building our social curriculum; and in ushering in Innovative Learning through the Block 2 and Block 1 upgrades. Through her leadership of the Maungakiekie Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning), she has strengthened ties with the other primary schools and preschools in our community and also with One Tree Hill College.
Corinne cares a lot about other people, and we can celebrate with her the presence of over 60 different ethnicities at our school of over 500 students. We can also celebrate our diverse teaching staff who reflect on their teaching practice, and their sharing of mātauranga (knowledge) and building of leadership. Corinne has been a real hoa (friend), ākonga (learner), kaitiaki (guardian) in her time with us.
We are grateful to Corinne for her early announcement, because this gives the Board of Trustees ample time to appoint a new principal.
We plan to appoint our new principal by the end of Term 3, so that they are ready to begin in Term 1, 2019.
Until next time,
Whakahoahoa, Ākonga, Kaitiaki!
